The UNESCO protected area of Old Havana is a work in progress. Its historic buildings dating from 1800s/early 1900s and left to their own devices since the 1960s, are now being restored to their former elegance.
Havana skipped the hi rise era - more by mismanagement than good luck - and its town squares offer low rise charm, with balconies, archways, pillars and human scale.
